What is a leader's image?

A leader's image is a combination of your physical features, such as height or facial features, and your psychological characteristics, such as personality, values, beliefs, behaviors and habits.

There are many types leader images. You can probably describe what those might be as you think about leaders in your company or other famous leaders. Some people use terms such as charismatic leader, dictator, or coach to describe a leader's image.

Everyone has what we call a dominant leader image. It is the image that you project to the world each day. It is the image that others have of you.

The reality is that your leader image is mostly about your interactions with others. It's about your individual relationships, how those individuals respond to you, and how they influence others' interactions with you.

As a business professional, your dominant leader image can either inspire or inhibit the performance of others. It can inspire good or evil, success or failure, winning or losing and so on.

As you reflect on your leadership, you need to understand that your leader image is not all about you. Your image is a reflection of what others think and say about you. It is the leader brand you develop and promote.
